I began my nursing career over 13 years ago…
And then… no joke, I was deposed for a medical case after being a nurse ONLY 6 MONTHS into my brand new nursing career.
Do you know most nurses live their ENTIRE career without ever having to do this, never having even been called by an attorney to review medical records after caring for a patient. AND THEN THERE’S ME.
And so there I was, 6 months- new grad- new nurse- thought I was D-O-N-E. Poof. Career I worked so hard for- GONE.
Well, it’s obvious I didn’t lose my job or my career, but sitting in front of a nursing panel and then being deposed by attorneys- I’m surprised I didn’t pee my pants through all of that.
That is literally the moment I realized just how integrated medicine and law are. And from then on, I was curious.
But, I thought it was too good to be true and moved into leadership instead.
I LOVED this role. Being able to inspire so many nurses, new and seasoned, helping departments attain awards and become profitable.
BUT… I still had to make sacrifices. And that’s when I revisited the idea of legal nursing.
JUST LIKE many of you, I thought I needed a certification, because, well- as nurses that’s kind of what we are taught. So I took some LNC courses.
It never crossed my mind that I became a burn nurse and a trauma nurse without having a certification, so why couldn’t I become a legal nurse without one? I missed that part.
After thousands of dollars spent, I was headed nowhere.
I decided I needed a mentor. I personally needed some help. If I was going to run a business, I needed to get my head on straight. I needed to understand why I wasn’t able to take all those skills I already obtained from roles in my career and mold them to benefit me in my LNC business.
And I bet you can guess exactly what happened next- Yep! (snap) Just like that- an LNC business like I hadn’t dreamed of. Making hundreds of thousands.
I literally changed NOTHING about my business model or my method of marketing, or how I generated reports, or billed…
The only thing that changed was ME!
And here I was… right in the middle of the pandemic, making more money than ever.

Stephaney Edwards is an independent legal nurse consultant for her private consulting firm- SELNA Consulting, LLC. For over seven years, her practice has served attorneys and firms nation-wide. Stephaney’s work is concentrated in personal injury and medical malpractice, but she oversees a team of legal nurses who specialize in an array of nursing specialties. This allows her firm to serve clients throughout the litigation process, pre and post, as well as provide support in other areas such as worker’s compensation, general liability defense, and tort review to name a few. She also has experience in the start-up of LNC businesses, currently teaching nurses how to start, run, and scale their very own independent LNC practice.
Prior to becoming a legal nurse, Stephaney has worked in healthcare with a primary focus in critical care and trauma. Stephaney has also served as a director over multiple departments across different facilities, specializing in neurosurgery, stroke, wound care, and hyperbarics. Ms. Edwards holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Florida, and has been a Certified Wound and Continence Care Nurse since 2014.

She started her LNC business in 2021, and loves being able to bring her experience and successes to coaching future LNCs. Her favorite part of this journey is when nurses get their first client, it is like she gets to relive that feeling over and over again!

Erin has been a Registered Nurse for 19 years. She is a military veteran and spouse which has given her the opportunity to work in multiple states and countries. Erin also completed a Masters degree in Nursing Education from Georgetown University and has had the opportunity to teach nursing students at both the ADN and BSN level.
Through her work as a forensic nurse Erin had the opportunity to testify as an expert witness where she was bit by the legal nurse consultant bug. After consulting through her day job Erin decided to start her own firm and consults with attorneys nationwide focusing mainly on forensic and personal injury cases.
Erin loves being a Success Advisor because it gives her the opportunity to combine her love of teaching and legal nursing to show nurses that there are options beyond the bedside.
In her free time she enjoys traveling, reading, and exercising. She also spends a lot of time driving her four daughters to all of their activities and events making her feel like an underpaid Uber driver.

After having children, she took on roles that did not require her to be on call. Urgent care, pediatrics, and nurse case management to name a few until the opportunity to be the program manager of a sexual assault team arrived. Here is where she found her passion, helping patients reporting sexual assault, intimate partner violence, or strangulation. Allowing Rachel to provide comfort and assistance to those in need without any basis or judgment. Rachel has received her certification as a SANE and continues to work toward her certification in Forensic Nursing. With her experience in trauma recovery, she brings entrepreneurship, as well as almost 20 years as a certified medical assistant. In 2020, She left these areas of expertise to search for significance and balance in her life.
In 2017, her world began collapsing, while going through life threatening illness, and divorce from a toxic, abusive marriage. The pain that she felt from trauma began as a child, had now compounded into overwhelm in her life. Paralyzed with hurt, guilt and unhappiness, she prayed for hope and a new foundation. On a mission to heal her WHOLE self: mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually, Jana found healing through several amazing programs which brought her beauty from ashes.
Jana has now embarked on a journey to help others transform their own generational legacies from trauma, into long-lasting healing. She empowers them to create the life that was meant for them!
